Tony Guilfoyle and Michael Williamson – Girlfriends

Michael Williamson was married with five children. But he also had a girlfriend, Cheryl McMillan, who worked at the HSU.

Tony Guilfoyle was also married, with five children. But he also had a girlfriend, Kirsty Assad, employed by City Tatts.

This is only to be expected when a CEO comes to see his employer’s money as his own. Instead of paying for prostitutes with your own money, why not have the club (or union) pay for your girlfriend?

But this is always a disaster for the members.

First, the girlfriend is always paid more than she is worth. Cheryl McMillan was paid $155,000 and a car for working two days a week. Kirsty Assad was paid over $100,000. She might have done a lot of running around and looking busy but she was a total failure when judged by the only thing that matters, what did she do for the members who paid her wages. Of course, girlfriends in these situations are often so self-absorbed they come to believe they are worth the money they receive.

Having the CEO’s girlfriend working in the office also has a terrible effect on other staff, and the organisation. It sends a clear message to all staff that doing your best for members is a waste of time – pleasing the CEO is what counts. The girlfriend also knows she can’t be sacked, which can lead to arrogance. Remember Guilfoyle’s previous girlfriend, Tania Purdy, and the burned toast incident.

Lastly, when the organisation is already corrupt the girlfriend is usually involved in the corruption. We will cover that next.

Tony Guilfoyle and Michael Williamson – Private School Fees

Michael Williamson had 5 children who all went to private schools. The two sons went to Cranbrook in Bellevue Hill and the three daughters went to St. Catherines in Waverley.

Tony Guilfoyle had 5 children, and all went to private schools. The four boys went to St Joseph’s in Hunters Hill, thanks to John Healy.

You might say this is just another amazing coincidence but it is far more important than that.

It was what started Kate McClymont’s investigation into Michael Williamson.

A parent of a girl at St Catherines suggested that the person she should be investigating was not Craig Thomson, but Williamson.

At the time McClymont had been looking into Craig Thomson’s use of union funds. She had never even heard of Michael Williamson.

The parent said that Williamson seemed to have an unusually lavish lifestyle for a union official. He drove a black Mercedes and a big four wheel drive. He splashed money around at school events and he and his wife travelled first class.

The parent told McClymont that union officials just didn’t get the sort of money needed for that lifestyle. So she decided to have a closer look, which eventually led to Williamson’s downfall.

Patrick Campion’s wife teaches at St Catherines. Maybe she knew Williamson.

Head of People & Culture!!

Looking at the ridiculous ad for Jan Ellks’ job you have to ask:

Who wrote this crap?

Could it be the Head of People & Culture?

What’s that you say? Have we been invaded by North Korea?

No, City Tatts now has a Head of People & Culture!

And who is this person? Is it Joseph Goebbels?

No, apparently someone called Kristina St Vincent-Jones.

She was the HR Manager before, but had some issue with Guilfoyle and left. After Guilfoyle got the boot she returned. Overall that is encouraging. The fact that she has a title like Head of People & Culture is a very bad sign.

Actually, we always worry when someone with a hyphenated name gets a job at City Tatts. Remember a few years back we had The Hyphenator (Lisa-Faye Tudhope-Wickham).

Anyway here at Save City Tatts we want to join in the job search but we don’t have a Head of People & Culture. Although looking at recent blogs we probably need one more than the club!

So seeing that we are looking for a replacement for the Wicked Witch we watched a few episodes of Finding Bigfoot and Hunting Hitler. Sure, these shows never actually find Bigfoot, or Hitler, or anything but we had to start somewhere and we picked up a few search tips.

Tony Guilfoyle and Michael Williamson – Credit Cards

Michael Williamson’s lavish lifestyle started with the union credit cards. At first it was just expensive lunches but eventually it included almost everything. He spent $30,000 per month on his union credit card.

When questioned by colleagues he always maintained that any personal spending was “paid back straight away”.

There were always similar suspicions about the spending on the City Tatts credit cards. Even Jimmy Chen suspected that there was something fishy about them but Guilfoyle and Mark Cooper refused to let him see any details of the spending.

Guilfoyle always said that any personal spending was paid back, by being deducted from his salary package.

And, to be fair, sometimes suppliers were paid by credit card because the City Tatts overdraft was up to the limit.

But there was a nifty twist to Williamson’s credit card abuse.

Williamson set up a deal where the Health Services Union would pay Communigraphix, run by John and Carron Gilleland, $690,000 a year to produce the union’s inhouse journal. The amount was about double the going rate for the job.

In return, Williamson and his girlfriend were given American Express cards to use for personal spending, but issued as supplementary cards on John Gilleland’s account.

So no amount of checking through the HSU’s records would reveal the spending. Even the kid’s school fees went on these credit cards.

Given the number of inflated contracts organised by Guilfoyle it would be no surprise if he rigged up something similar.

Situation Vacant – Jan Ellks

If you want a good laugh have a look at the ad for Jan Ellks’ replacement.

You’ve never read such crap in your life, about City Tatts, or the job.

Even by the usual overblown standards of job ads this one is dreadful nonsense.

You would think they were looking for the PA for the chairman of BHP or Westpac. In fact, looking at the desired attributes you’d have to be a combination of Mahatma Gandhi, Steve Jobs and Angela Merkel to do the job.

Therein, we feel, lies the logical flaw in the ad. If, by some miracle, you met the requirements, why would you go to City Tatts?

But enough of the nonsense.

Jan Ellks was just a secretary, not even a good one.

Think about it. City Tatts managed to go 11 months without any CEO. So how important could the CEO’s secretary be?

Tony Guilfoyle and Michael Williamson – More Greed

There was no limit to the greed of Michael Williamson and Tony Guilfoyle.

Brad Norington perfectly summarised this greed in Planet Jackson:

“Williamson had made an art form of nepotism and croneyism, rewarding those closest to him while keeping the largest share for himself”.

Williamson’s salary from the HSU was over $500,000.

He was getting another $200,000 from directorships, all granted because of his union/Labor Party connections.

He organised a number of dubious contracts with suppliers and contractors at inflated prices – and pocketed a hefty share of the excess for himself, according to the police.

And he funnelled millions to the union’s architect, Ron Mah-Chut, who also happened to work on Williamson’s homes at Maroubra and Lake Macquarie.

Guilfoyle’s salary from City Tatts was $600,000.

But he took another $200,000 from the club without bothering to tell the committee.

He organised a long list of dubious contracts with suppliers and contractors at inflated prices. It is a certainty that any police investigation will reveal similar frauds to the HSU.

And Guilfoyle funnelled over a million to the club’s architect, Peter Georgeson, who also happened to work on Guilfoyle’s home, and his motels in Mittagong and Nowra.

Ding Dong – The Witch is Dead!

Yes, the Wicked Witch of City Tatts, Jan Ellks, will soon be getting on her broom and flying to Taree.

The Club has placed ads looking for an “Executive Assistant” which can only mean Jan is on the way out.

Was it something we said?

More details to follow shortly.

What will this do to the City Tatts Pantomime?

We lost Tweedledum and Tinker Bell last year and now the Wicked Witch is gone. But the show must go on. We’ve still got Tweedledee and Humpty Dumpty.
